Loch Ewe and the Russian Arctic Convoys

Must have been pretty chilly and bleak keeping a look-out from Cove in the second world war, watching for U-boats moving beneath the water or listening for a plane above the clouds.


But beautiful too.


And constantly changing.


Hard to believe that so many Royal Navy and Merchant Navy ships once filled the loch that it was said you could cross it by jumping from ship to ship. These hills were the last place that many of those brave sailors ever saw.
